Commitment to Green
We are pleased to announce that we’ve made significant progress toward lowering our farm’s carbon footprint over the past year. You may already know about our solar thermal system that uses the power of the sun to heat our seedlings in the greenhouse early in the spring. In April, 2009, we entered a conservation easement with the Berkeley County Farmland Protection Program. This means that our farmland can never be developed, and our 37 acres will be preserved as open green space forever. Proceeds from the sale of development rights were re-invested in the land in December, when we installed a solar photovoltaic array, capable of producing 6 KW of emissions-free electricity. Our commitment to green now extends well beyond our growing philosophy!
